The Fenton Flute and Dot 5-1/2 in vase

A charming little vase made by Fenton from 10/8/1982 to present.

The original mold was made by Imperial Glass, date unknown.  Made in three or four carnival colors, two of them featured in the Carnival Glass book by Bill Edwards. Called Thumbprint and Oval, the two colors shown, Marigold and Purple, very hard to find.

The normal assumption would be that Fenton Art Glass acquired the Imperial mold.  I have written our friend Dr James Measell and here is his information to me.

”The mold for the #9050 Vase, Fenton calls Flute and Dot, was made in 1981-82.  Carnick Hamperian did the drawings, (probably based on the imperial piece Mr. Frank M Fenton had purchased and brought to him).  Mould maker Lynn Russi chipped in the design.

First production record was dated 10/8/82, the production record was for 1500 pieces for the Cotter & Co. Hardware of Chicago. Color code “RT” indicates it was Country Peach, acid etched to a velvet finish.

Interesting note. These items were not to have price sticker and the packing slip was to read Imperial number 51751.  These were probably made by Fenton for Imperial for the hardware company.”

The web site of David Doty Carnival Glass (www.ddoty.com) states that Fenton has made this vase in Aqua Opal and Peach Opal in the late 1990’s for the Lincoln-Land Club, and for the International Carnival Class Association in Sapphire Blue hand painted in 1989. .

Below is a list of the vases in the catalogs and the ones I know are Gift Shop items.  If you find one let us know, we will add it to the list.
